Armed with acrylic paint and open ended possibilities this canvas began with a spontaneous base layer of blue and yellow, colors unfamiliar and inhabitual to me. It was January 2022 and I had unconsciously painted the colors of the Ukraine flag. Once I recognized that, I unblocked the confusion and set to work creating a 6ft tall secret garden, a private place imagined or real, where one can go for refuge. Koi fish swim in the pond, lily pads and statues of David languish in the serenity.
